A very unusual Michelin Bibendum Figure sitting on a tyre with a painted illuminated wooden base with pit lines and lamp post.
Amazing Craftsmanship. A Real Unique - One Off.
This was purchased on an auction website some years ago. I put a low bid on the item as it was hardly distinguishable with blurry lights and you could just make out that there was a bibendum figure on it. I bid, on it thinking the figure could be repurposed in some way.
Then forgot all about it until I got a shock message that I had won it.
When shipped, it arrived in a professionally built large wooden crate. The packaging must have cost a fortune. Unpacking it, I was shocked to find the amazing attention to detail and craftsmanship -truly astounding. I enquired to the seller asking who the maker was and told that it was his cousin a guy called Robin...........Robin Banks, his name was on the sender label.
(The seller confirmed this in an email which I still have)
I tried to get the figure authenticated by Banksy at the 'Pest Control' website but they denied that it was his work when confirmed that it had his cousin's address as the seller - obviously because this could lead to the real identity of the famous anonymous artist and this could easily be traced by an ancestry web site.
The craftsmanship is very similar to a lot of the artwork at the Banksy ‘Dismaland’ and Bristol museum pieces that were displayed a few years back.
